Superior DRT63ST 40" Traditional See-Through Direct Vent Gas Fireplace
Superior
The Superior BRT40ST is a 40-inch radiant see-through B-Vent gas fireplace in the Custom Series, designed to serve as a stunning architectural divider between two rooms. The see-through design provides a dramatic flame view from both sides simultaneously - perfect for kitchen-to-living-room divides, primary bedroom suites, or open-plan layouts. Standard equipment includes a deluxe ceramic fiber split-oak log set with heavy-duty grate, aluminized U-tube burner with variable flame control, deep glowing embers, flexible gas connector, decorative volcanic stone, tempered glass on both sides, black painted interior, durable powder-coat exterior finish, and a standard barrier that meets 2015 safety requirements.
The BRT40ST ships with a Millivolt ignition system (remote-ready, operates during power outages via standing pilot) configured for Natural Gas at $5,169. For Liquid Propane installations, the GCKEBVMNP conversion kit ($137) is required and sold separately. Optional accessories include the EBLK-ST Buff Rustic ceramic liner kit ($336, replaces black painted interior), 2 Outside Air Kit options (FOAK-4 $78 with duct, FOAK-4LD $68 less duct), the RC-S-1 timer remote ($336), 2 wall switch options (FWSK basic $34, WS-S-TMR countdown timer $146), additional decorative volcanic stone ($34), additional glowing embers ($68), and the SCTPSAB powder-coat touch-up paint ($112). Top-flue 6-inch B-Vent venting required. Listed to ANSI Z21.50 and PFS F14-175.
Why choose B-Vent? B-Vent gas fireplaces deliver the most realistic wood-fire ambiance of any gas fireplace category - tall yellow dancing flames with deep glowing ember beds. Unlike direct-vent fireplaces (which have sealed glass fronts that compress flame appearance), B-Vent fireplaces have open or screened fronts that allow the flame to develop naturally. Unlike vent-free fireplaces (which release combustion products into the room), B-Vent fireplaces vent atmospherically through the chimney. The trade-off is lower thermal efficiency (B-Vent is approximately 40-50% efficient vs 70-80% for direct-vent and 99.9% for vent-free) - B-Vent prioritizes ambiance over heat output.
B-Vent system requires locally-sourced 6-inch B-Vent pipe. B-Vent fireplaces use a natural-draft chimney system that draws combustion air from inside the home and vents flue gases vertically through the roof. The 6-inch B-Vent pipe, flashing, termination, and installation hardware must be sourced separately from a local supplier (Superior does not include venting components with the fireplace). B-Vent has different code requirements than direct-vent or vent-free systems - consult a qualified hearth professional or your local code authority before installation. NOT compatible with direct-vent systems (different pipe, different combustion air path).
