Marquis Solace II 42 Direct Vent Gas Fireplace
MarquisSolace II 42 Overview
The Marquis Solace II 42 is the larger sibling to the Solace II 36, with a 42" wide zero-clearance footprint and the same dual-tier glass-construction choice: tempered glass at 24,000 BTU NG (HBZDV4224) or higher-efficiency ceramic glass at 28,000 BTU NG (HBZDV4228). Viewing area is 33 3/8" W x 20 3/8" H with a 35 1/2" tempered or ceramic glass front, framing dimensions 42 3/8" wide by 37 1/4" tall by 17" deep. Built in Canada by R-Co. Inc. / Marquis by Kingsman.
Like the Solace II 36, the 42" model is offered in tempered (Z21.50) and ceramic (Z21.88 heater-rated) glass tiers. The ceramic tier delivers higher input and 6 to 8 percentage points more efficiency, making it the right choice when the fireplace will serve as a meaningful heat source. Both tiers include hi/lo wall switch, refractory brick liners, integrated safety screen, and a sloped 4/7" top flue. The 42" version has a wider Surround option (HB42SBL black surround for louvered units, $346.50) and a Designer Clean View circulating kit (HB42CVCK, $520.30) that hides louvers for a flush picture-frame look. Vents using 4/7" Kingsman flex, 4 x 6 5/8" hard pipe, or PVH58 power vent.

Glass Construction Selection
The Solace II is offered in two glass-construction tiers. Both tiers share the same firebox, framing dimensions, and aesthetic, but differ in heat output and certification:
- Tempered Glass: Decorative-rated (ANSI Z21.50). Lower input (24,000 BTU NG max), lower price. Best for ambiance-first installations where the fireplace is used occasionally for atmosphere rather than as a primary heat source. Tempered glass should not be touched while hot.
- Ceramic Glass: Heater-rated (ANSI Z21.88). Higher input (28,000 BTU NG max) and noticeably higher efficiency. Bedroom approved. Best for installations where the fireplace will provide meaningful supplemental heat or run for extended periods. Ceramic glass tolerates much higher surface temperatures than tempered.
Both tiers accept the same liners, front kits, surround, fan kit, and accessories.
Valve System Selection
The Solace is available with two valve systems:
- Standard Millivolt: Proven thermopile-powered valve. Operates during power outages without electricity. Compatible with millivolt remote controls (GTRC $357.50) and millivolt thermostats (Z2MT $130.90, Z80PT $204.60).
- IPI PF1 (Proflame 1): Intermittent pilot ignition. No standing pilot flame between uses. Compatible with PF1 remotes (EGTRC $421.30, EGTMRCN/P $572) and thermostatic / modulating control. Battery backup available (WMBH $251.90).
Conversion kits are available if you need to switch fuel post-install (around $105.60 millivolt, $124.30 IPI). Both valve types accept the same firebox, liners, and accessories.
